Japanese Knives
Japanese Knives is a book series that tells you everything you need to know about Japanese knives. The books also show a journey through time, starting with a more traditional layout, moving toward a modern composition, and ending with a post-modern design.
This book series is made up of three saddle-stitched books printed on grey paper. The grey paper makes the colors pop, as well as serves to reference to the metal of the knives
The first book tells the history of Japanese knife crafting. This book uses a manuscript grid and more classical design principals to showcase the past of Japanese knives.
The second book highlights the different type of Japanese knives and their uses. This book uses a three-column grid and more modern design principals to showcase the modern uses of Japanese knives.
The third book tells the story of Takefu Village, a Japanese village dedicated to knife crafting. This book uses a deconstructed grid and post-modern design principals to showcase the future of Japanese knives.
All of the art for these books were created with custom gradient maps and photo editing done in photoshop.
